Getting Sober Young is Easier with Other Teens
Most teens struggle with the idea of getting sober at such a young age, which is why we believe that age specificity is a key component in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction for this age group. At Vista Academy clients are surrounded by their peers who are going through the same struggles they are, and many staff members are sober and in recovery as well. Clients participate in a wide range of activities designed to teach them that it is possible to have fun without drugs and alcohol. By introducing them to exciting new activities, and showing them that everything that they enjoyed doing while drinking and using is just as fun, if not more fun now that they are sober.
Clients participate in cultural, entertainment, and sporting activities off-grounds and in their surrounding community. Vista Academy is located near parks, malls, field, amusement parks, sporting events, and more where clients are able to reignite their passion for life and enjoy life without the use of drug and alcohol.
Getting Sober, and Staying Sober
Most teens that go to rehab for drug and alcohol abuse and addiction are struggling in other aspects of their life as well, such as school, health, family relationships, peer-to-peer relationships etc. In order to get to the bottom of these issues and begin to rebuild a life, it is necessary for clients to be abstinent from all mind altering substances. This gives clients the opportunity to get to know the person they were before they started using and to work on themselves and learn tools, other than drugs and alcohol that they can use to deal with life’s issues both past and present.
To ensure clients are maintaining sobriety, clients are drug tested randomly, several times a week.
Building a Support Group in Sobriety
Southern California has the largest number of young people’s recovery groups in the country, making it the ideal place for teens to get sober. Clients attend outside young people’s 12 step meetings, and are encouraged to fellowship and meet more teens their same age that are sober. There is nothing like hearing the experiences of someone your age who was once struggling that is now sober. All clients are encouraged to get a sponsor and start working steps so they will better understand the program for when they attend meetings on their own after treatment.
Many of the young people who are referred to Vista Academy will come from other treatment facilities where they were unsuccessful achieving sobriety. We offer our clients and their families a fresh start and a new way of helping the client become successful achieving sobriety individually, with family, and in the community.
